Didim is a provincial seaside resort on the Aegean coast
of Turkey, with pristine sandy beaches, turquoise bays
and a past steeped in ancient history. The ancient city
of Didyma, originally a pre-Greek cult sanctuary, was
established as a colony of Myceane and then Crete in the
16th century BC, and was subsequently possessed by the
Persians, the Ancient Romans and the Byzantines, as part
of the province of Caria.
The town today is renowned for the Blue Flag beaches of
Altinkum, two crescent shapes totaling over a kilometre
of golden sands fringed by crystal-clear shallow sea.
